The inaugural RTÉ Late Late Show St. Patrick’s Day Award. I was delighted to be asked (at short notice) to produce the RTÉ Late Late Show St. Patrick’s Day Award.
Our ‘Infinity Spiral’ which was presented by Ryan Tubridy to Dr. Sammar Ali. Dr. Ali is the daughter of Dr. Syed Waqqar Ali the Mater Hospital Dr who was one of the 8 HSE staff to die of Covid. Dr. Sammar Ali received this special award on behalf of her own work also in the Mater and that of her father as acknowledgement of the wider heroic work done by health workers all over Ireland.
The Infinity Spiral is a continuous strip of brass which goes through a turbulent knot and exits upwards to infinity and the sky. Its base is made from Kilkenny marble. We are always open to awards or sculptural comissions if you have a project in mind. Hope some of you stayed up late enough to see it on the telly.
Congratulations to Abbvie/ Sligo who were the recipient of our Créafóg award for sustainability & environmental impact. We were very happy to make these awards. We renovated solid bronze bearings from industry to create the global surround which was laser cut from acrylic and hand rendered on aluminium. This was structured on local grange limestone from the Boyne Valley. Thanks to American Chamber for the commission and we hope that Abbvie in Sligo have a nice place for the trophy!

Video of Shane Holland Design's production process provided by Hanley Energy and The Magic Tractor
This commission to design and make Player of the Series trophies for the Inter-Provincial Cup ,and Inter-Provincial Trophy, and Inter-Provincial Championship, was part of Hanley Energy's sponsorship of the Series run by Cricket Ireland. The design using bronze, acrylic stainless steel and 3 species of native Irish hardwoods, Yew, Elm and Spanish Chestnut were chosen to show sustainability as a key force in this sponsorship. They have a stainless steel sphere as the centre-piece with a swirl of bronze to emphasise the spin on the ball, key to cricket. The Series has been running all summer with the final match taking place next week, more information can be found here.
Yesterday on May the 5th, the Dóchas Annual Conference took place in Croke Park Conference Centre. The ceremony, a gathering of international and domestic NGOs, government representatives, environmental groups, activists, civil society and private sector organisations, began with a keynote speech from President Michael D. Higgins and other leaders in international development. We produced a perpetual award for Global Citizen of the Year which was awarded to Colette Nkunda and an Innovative Programme of the Year award which was given to Camara Education. These handmade awards consisted of a stained ash base with a stainless steel name plate and a hammered and torched copper triangular plate. This design champions people who go through a lot of difficulty to achieve their goals, the torched and hammered acknowledged their persistence through difficulty. Have a look at this quick video of us producing the copper sails.
