The Ruray Desklight by Irish Designer Shane Holland, of Shane Holland Design Workshops has just been chosen by designers for the Hilton s Hotel Presedential Suite at Los Angeles Airport. This is another positive affifmation of the Award winning LED Light which was named after a roaring wave (Tonn Ruraigh) off the Irish Coast. The Ruray works as a desk or bedside light as it can be positioned vertically or horizontally. The Ruray was launched by the Irish Lighting designer at London design Festival / Tent and the product has gone on to be sold to Korea , the US, the UK, Russia, Australia, Canada, and Germany.
Shane Holland is passionate about the handbuilt nature of his products. They're all made in his own workshops in County Meath near the Irish Sea. The sea has a heavy influence on Hollands' work, he lives on the coast of North Dublin and is a Keen sea Kayaker. This experience in the waters off Ireland has led to a number of projects including a Sea Pole memorial sculptural project for victims of sea tragedies off the North Dublin Coast off Skerries. His other sea influenced project is the Sea brick and stone clocks collected on his kayak trips from the Atlantic and Irish Sea. The design studio and workshop offer signed and numbered products which have proven to be highly collectible due to their limited production. The Ruray could now be considered not just as a roaring wave but a roaring success in Irish Design. Holland is now planning his next shows in London and Frankfurt later on this year.
